→ character information

Series: Weiss Kreuz
Name: Naoe Nagi (codename Prodigy)
Age: 15
Gender: Male

Appearance: Nagi’s looks are of the type that allow him to sink into the background unnoticed almost anywhere. He stands at five feet two inches, but his short stature is not entirely uncommon among those who, like Nagi, are of Japanese descent. His hair is a dark brown and is cut into choppy layers, falling messily around his face and into his eyes. His nose and mouth are both small, giving his face a delicate look often betrayed by the expressions he wears, and his eyes are a deep blue. Most of the time Nagi wears his school uniform, whether or not he’ll actually be attending school at the time. It is blue-gray in color, and consists of long pants and a long sleeve shirt the zips up to a high collar. The shirt’s zipper is trimmed in a silvery blue color. He wears this uniform around home, to Schwarz’s jobs, and when just going out. On the rare occasion that he isn’t wearing his school uniform he usually wears dark, drab versions of whatever color he may choose to wear.

Personality: Nagi hates the world and the human race. He sees the general human population as loathsome creatures: worthless people who think only of their pointless existences, cruel to others whenever the whim leads them to it. Society has treated him with scorn since he was a child, long ignoring him, and so he has come to scorn it right back. He has long since gotten to a point where he is more than happy to have the world leave him alone. He plans to eventually get revenge on society. He has no compunctions about hurting or killing people, which is helpful in a group like Schwarz, a group that does both bodyguard work and assassinations, though he doesn’t actively seek out opportunities to injure people.

While he hates humanity, he does actually like some people on a case-by-case basis. He doesn’t dislike the members of his team, though they do annoy him often enough. Nagi hates being manipulated, dislikes being scolded or told what to do in his personal life, and doesn’t like not being taken seriously. He tends acts professionally toward his teammates, and would prefer that they treat him in kind.

He is a quiet person and tends to keep to himself. While he doesn’t dislike anyone in Schwarz, he isn’t exactly friends with any of them, either. By choice Nagi has as little contact with anyone outside of Schwarz as possible, as there would be no good result to interacting with most people, anyway. He has a serious and businesslike attitude when Schwarz meets with clients, but most of the time he is simply aloof and stand-offish.

Contradictorily, he is probably the member of Schwarz that cares about people most deeply. He is extremely loyal to anyone he does somehow befriend, and would most definitely protect his team at all costs. Nagi is actually a rather empathetic person if he lets himself care about anyone, which is one of the reasons he tends not to do so. For all he has seen and done, he subconsciously still wants to believe in people, even though he has consciously given up humanity long ago. The trait he likes most in people is innocence, considering it the one redeeming, pure quality a person can have, and he also believes in love.

Particulars: Telekinetic: Nagi was born with the ability to move things with his mind. He can do all sorts of things with that power, from moving small or delicate items across a room to taking down entire buildings. The angrier he is the stronger and more disorderly his telekinesis becomes. Though it’s done entirely with his mind, Nagi often uses hand motions aside the telekinesis to help him focus.

Hacker: Nagi is very good with a computer. He can hack into almost anywhere, even on short notice, and can get at pretty much any information he wants to find. He is the computer specialist for Schwarz, getting them whatever they’ll need to know for their next mission.

Canon History: When Nagi was young, only a few years old, he killed his mother. The memory of doing so, however, was repressed. After his mother’s death he lived on the street for some time, where he was bullied by other children. Every so often he runs into a woman called Sister Kaoruko, a nun who runs an orphanage in the city. She usually talks to him for awhile, and often brings up him coming to stay at the orphanage.

Eventually he took her up on the offer, going to live at the orphanage. While he lived there the orphanage was occasionally visited by a man named Brad Crawford, a man who he does not especially like. In general, however, things at the orphanage were a lot better than his time on the streets. He was on friendly terms with the other orphans there, and he came to see Sister Kaoruko as a great woman, one who is pure and actually cares about people.

One day Hidaka Ken, a boy who used to live at the orphanage, came back to visit. Nagi met him only briefly, but got a feeling about why he’s come to visit. When Ken came a second time, Nagi made him promise that he would never betray Sister Kaoruko. With Ken’s promise given, Nagi immediately brightened up, and asked that Ken teach him how to play soccer. With Sister Kaoruko safe from any betrayal, there wasn’t anything to worry about.

But unfortunately, though Sister Kaoruko was tenderhearted toward and kind to children, she was also taking part in a number of less than savory activities, one of which was trying to bring back Nagi’s memory of killing his mother, so that Crawford would be able to make use of Nagi’s telekinetic power. Ken, as a representative of the organization Weiss, had come not so much to visit his friends from the orphanage as to investigate Sister Kaoruko and definitively link her to her crimes.

When Weiss showed up to take care of Sister Kaoruko, she tried to talk Ken out of killing her, bringing up that she does everything to try to protect children. Feigning to take her side, he killed her instead. Nagi witnessed, and became extremely angry. The inside of the church turned into a tornado, and everything it touched was destroyed. The building was about to collapse, so Weiss leaves, wondering at Nagi’s power.

Nagi was then taken away to Rosenkreuz by Crawford, vowing revenge against Ken. There he is trained in the use of his power, and he later returned to Japan as part of the psychic team Schwarz, consisting of himself, Crawford and two other members, Schuldig and Farfarello. The four went to Tokyo to become bodyguards for a man named Takatori, who was gunning for the highest position in the Japanese government, all while committing unthinkable crimes. Esset, a group linked to Rosenkreuz, have plans to use Takatori. Schwarz has plans of their own, involving the eventual downfall of Esset.

While in Tokyo Nagi met a girl named Tot, one of Takatori’s son’s bodyguards and a member of the four woman group Shreient. Even though she was a trained killer, she was also pure and innocent, and Nagi fell in love with her. He was warned by Crawford to stay away from her, but he disobeyed, seeing her whenever he could.

Meanwhile both Shreient and Schwarz have been fighting off Weiss, who often came to right the crimes that lead back to the Takatori family, though the two groups of Takatori bodyguard are also on unfriendly terms with each other. When Tot was killed in a fight between all three groups, Nagi brought the whole building down. Weiss and Schwarz survived it, as did Tot.

Schwarz then kidnapped the sister of one of the members of Weiss and bring her to Esset, drawing Weiss into their plan to overthrow the three elders of Esset. The two teams fought each other, and Esset got killed in the crossfire. As the last of Esset died, the building came crashing down around them, sending Weiss and Schwarz plunging toward the sea.

→ deviations

Crux: While the two assassin teams are falling, Nagi attempts to keep a shield around Schwarz, but sees the perfect opportunity to take his revenge upon Ken and kills him. This distracts him just enough to make the shield less effective, and Crawford gets knocked unconscious and drowns in the sea.

Tangent: As Schwarz pulled themselves, bedraggled, to the beach, Nagi realized that not only was Crawford not going to be joining them, but that it is all his fault. The three remaining members of Schwarz finally dragged themselves away from the beach, giving up on waiting when all trace of Crawford’s psychic signature was long gone.

They brought themselves to the safe spot Crawford has previously arranged for the team. Schuldig and Farfarello talked the night away, keeping themselves distracted, but Nagi spent the time brooding, hunched against a wall. The next few days were simply more of the same, and Nagi only deepened his conviction that this is his fault. His recklessness and pursuit of selfish revenge had cost them their leader, and if there was one thing he was sure of it was that you never betrayed your team.

Neither Schuldig nor Farfarello ever said anything blaming him for it, but he couldn’t stand to be around them anymore. He was a traitor, even if he hadn’t meant to be. Nagi tried to think of someplace he could go to, and a vague memory came to him, a memory of something he had over heard on the streets as a young child. A place where everything could be made better, and it wasn’t merely the fantasy of those abandoned to cruel homelessness. One night while his two remaining teammates slept Nagi snuck out, getting himself to Tokyo harbor and finding passage to the island of his memory.

Allegiance: Cabal

Reason: Nagi is extremely bright and often aloof, and he has no problems with hurting people. While he is only marginally interested in plotting personally, caring more about being left alone, he is drawn to following cunning, calculating leaders, in the image of Crawford.
